Dr. James Mackey

Dr. James Mackey returned to his position as Chief Executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS FT in November 2017, after a two-year duty in a national position as Chief Executive of NHS Improvement. He received a knighthood in 2018 for his contributions to healthcare, and as part of the region’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak, he led the establishment of his trust’s own protective equipment factory. In addition, Sir James serves as the chair of the NHS Customer Board for Supply and Procurement.

In order to assist the national team in addressing the elective backlog, NHS England and NHS Improvement recently appointed Sir James as SRO and National Director of Elective Recovery for the Elective Programme that was built up during COVID-19.
